Back in 2015, I got engaged and, like any DIY-loving bride, I designed my own wedding invitations. I posted them online just for fun, and suddenly, people were sliding into my DMs asking if I could design theirs too. Before I knew it, what started as a little side project turned into a full-blown business—and Unica Forma was born. Before I get into why I switched from Unica Forma to to Unica Formo, let me start at the beginning.
How Unica Forma Got Its Name
In the early days, my husband and I brainstormed name ideas that felt right. We landed on Unica Forma, which means “Unique Form” in Latin. It just fit—it captured the essence of custom wedding stationery, and I loved how it sounded. For years, I ran a thriving wedding stationery business under the name Unica Forma (or just Unica, for short), designing for couples all over the world.
The Pivot (and My $50,000 Mistake)
Then life changed. I had my first baby, stepped away from weddings, and focused on this new season of life. Since I wasn’t planning to keep Unica Forma going, I let my domain, www.unicaforma.com, expire. No big deal, right? Wrong.
At the time, my Pinterest was blowing up with over 2 million monthly views, and nearly all of those links pointed back to unicaforma.com. The second my domain expired, someone snatched it up and listed it for resale—for a casual $50,000 (LOL). Obviously, I wasn’t about to pay that, so I decided to wait it out.
The Waiting Game (and My Social Handle Struggles)
Since then, I’ve been low-key stalking the domain, hoping the price would drop to something reasonable. As of February 2025, it’s still listed for $19,000, and yeah… still not worth it.

Meanwhile, my Instagram handle was another headache. @unicaforma was taken by an inactive account with one follower. I messaged them for years, offering to buy it, but never got a response. So, I was stuck with @unicaforma_, which always felt like a compromise.
The Rebrand: Hello, Unica Formo
By 2024, I was ready to bring Unica Forma back, but spending $19,000+ just to reclaim a domain? No, thanks. So instead, I made a small but strategic change: I rebranded to Unica Formo—which still means “Unique Form” in Latin.
It keeps the heart of my original brand while giving me a fresh start. Plus, I finally got the domain and social handles I actually wanted! (Legally, it’s still Unica Forma, because let’s be real—dealing with business paperwork is not my idea of fun.)
The Takeaway
So, that’s the story of why Unica Forma became Unica Formo. It wasn’t some dramatic pivot—just a necessary change after some very expensive lessons in domain ownership.
At the end of the day, this business has evolved just like I have, and I’m excited for this new chapter. Unica Formo is here to stay.

This story made “Unica Formo” in fact even MORE unique than “Unica Forma” so I think it fits even better than just right this time around. Fun fact: I was curious about the meaning of Unica Formo, Googled it, and it brought me to this blog so… I love that you open the Curiosity Gap with your brand’s name! Brilliant.
